South Western Railway has still not confirmed a return date for Island Line, but latest rumours suggest 27th October has been pencilled in.
Earlier this month Island Echo reported that plans to re-open the Ryde-Shanklin railway had been scuppered by recent bad weather.
Trains were only meant to be suspended for a 3 month period between January and March, but it now seems likely that the project will overrun by at least 6 months.
Island Echo is told that 27th October is the current target return date for Island Line with the Class 484 trains operating up and down the line.
However, South Western Railway say that they are unable to give any further update on a planning re-opening date at present.
The train operator has apologised to customers for this uncertainty.

We are way past the point where apologies are acceptable.
Yes, they’ve had problems but that doesn’t stop them publishing updates on the roadblocks and they actions they are taking to get around them.
Exactly how long can they get away without running a service or even providing details of how and when they will get to that point before they are in breach of their franchise agreement?

I have commuted over to the mainland for 17yrs
Sailing on the 7.15 to 8.47 and all the ferries would have at least 20 passengers that came off the train . Will be interesting to see what time the trains will get to the Esplanade as people will need about 15mins to get down the Pier to catch the Cat at 45mins past the hour !!
Why not just never reopen it and be done? Clearly the island functions without the thing!
The train is heavily used. Without it everyone is parking in residential streets in Ryde adding congestion.
Why don’t you go and take a run off a short pier Lord Beeching.
It’s seems like the Islands transportation system has gone to pot, we need something that works a lot of folk travel by foot it’s a shorter hop at Ryde, and some leave cars on the mainland to save on the expensive unreliable car ferries.
They want to close the IOW train line down, but won’t come out and say it.
current situation is just to gauge impact of full closure, which will follow in a few months / next year. Been an intention for years a s it makes no money.
Cant we use Havenstreet’s trusty steam engines as a stop gap, just stop before the pier.
We never never seem to have any problems with the old pre WW2 1940’s London tube trains, IOW had the most reliable railway network in the UK they were in service.
We need to employ more Engineers and less Managers on 6 digit salaries not Islands transportation system has gone to pot. 1 Engineer doing the rowing with 20 mangers in the boat telling him how to row.
How can you have a ‘pre WW2 1940s train’.
WW2 started in 1939, so ‘pre WW2’ would have to be 1930s, not 1940s.
