A member of staff at a school in Newport has tested positive for COVID-19, resulting in a number of students being told to self-isolate into October.
In a letter sent out to parents this evening (Monday), Christ the King College has said that a member of staff has been tested positive for coronavirus, as confirmed by Public Health England.
Staff have been able to identify which students have been in close contact with the affected member of staff and in line with national guidance those children are now being told to stay at home until Tuesday 6th October.
The last day of contact the children had with the unidentified member of staff was Wednesday 23rd September.
It was just last Tuesday that Year 9 students were sent home from Christ the King after a student tested positive, as previously reported by Island Echo.
It has been confirmed that the latest positive case related to a member of support staff. The only classes affected by this are 10K/En2B & 10B/Hi1.
Students not in these classes are unaffected and should attend school as normal.
What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID 19
If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19, they must not come to school and should remain at home for at least 10 days from the date when their symptoms appeared. Anyone with symptoms will be eligible for testing and this can be arranged via https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test or by calling 119.
All other household members who remain well, must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. This includes anyone in your ‘Support Bubble’.

Up the port
It is now a legal requirement to self isolate for 14 days .I hope that they will all be fined
why? they are isolating for 14 days
This is literally mad. 42,000 have died with or from the virus, median age 84F, 81M (longer than life expectancy of this cohort earlier in life). “Measures” haven’t saved anyone from the virus but they’ve certainly resulted in suffering, pain & deaths of many.
Let’s hope those with brothers and sisters in other years, don’t end up spreading it to those years pupils.
As colds have already spread through the School, then with CV supposedly far more contagious, seems most will catch this before the Winter is over.
Hope the young are not at risk from any lasting effects from this dreadful disease.
I personally think as being a student at this school that every year 10 should self isolate if there hav been in contact with people in that class (everyone) and then if you’ve been in contact with year 10s that year should self isolate aswell (personally I just wanna be off school be there we go )
From today until the 6th of October isn’t 14 days
From 23 September, get it right !!
Stop testing ,then you won’t have to isolate .
If they don’t test then nobody will know who has covid 19 and everyone would get it. The world would then be unsafe and ruin everyone’s lives all thanks to some people with symptoms that didn’t test. Of course, if you don’t want to test the be my guest but put yourself and everyone else at risk.
load of crap anonymous – the world already has covid all around it, just like the other coronviruses that exist.
the death rate overall is 0.02% – in other words, 99.98% of the planet will survive – hardly justifies lockdown the place does it
What the hell are you talking about? You sound like one of those stupid, pathetic protesters at the weekend! People like that need to stop shouting absolute bollocks and accept what’s actually happening in the world rather than voicing an opinion that nobody gives a toss about.
Actually it’s people like you that should shut up .constantly spouting fake propaganda you have swallowed .
Fake? One million people globally have lost their lives to this virus. You need to wake up mate and accept things for how they are.
You mean … Locking the place down.
Maybe someone a lot smarter than you thinks it does justify lock down. For example, almost all the governments in the world. But I suppose, some island echo readers are better placed to make that judgement. It’s lucky we have people like you in the world making these big decisions. Oh, no, wait….
At risk from what ?
The space should be after your comma, not before.
Stop talking nonsense.
There’s only one person talking nonsense and its not me .
It’s been revealed this week that the tests are rigged to give a false positive so as to keep up the fear, many who have just a cold go for a test get told positive and have to isolate and in this case cause more upheaval at the school.Tell us how many are in icu or have died on this island this month please instead of scaremongering constantly
Source?
@SRichards. If writing this type of comment you need to provide source and also watch the words you use otherwise you are just spreading misinformation and no better than those you try to discredit.
Uk needs too get a grip.let it run its corse .just take precautions.if your teenage neice or nephew who most care little thinks its more important too go mix n get pissed well educate the idiots.testing does not mean that person will gwt ill or die.its a certain group ufor.like me sick of no life shielding but all this lockdown crap wont make it go away.live with it folks.get flue …get cancer…life goes on.people may die. But ww ALL NEED A LIFE …and TO MAKE OUR OWN DECISIONS.not forced
You’ll soon change your tune if your whole family got it, loosing one or two and the rest with long lasting affects from developing pneumonia because of covid.
I had pneumonia twice in my 20s, 30 years later I still feel the affects. You may not die but this covid attacks the lungs. Will have to give up the fags and beer.
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

You have no idea of what living under an oppressive society is like. I have a friend who grew up under soviet rule, makes these restrictions look like a 5 star holiday.
This is not oppression it’s basic public health contingencies to help slow the spread so the NHS is not overwhelmed.
Tyranny? Oppression? Grow up.
interesting regular use of the word ‘tyranny’ RI, yet your suggested solution to this whole situation is ‘herd immunity’ which will ultimately result in sacrificing the vulnerable amongst our population. Just saying.
When the goverment policy is to stick the ill in old people homes, it is already happening and if you were not already aware they had a policy of D.N.R. on all residents, so your argument won`t stand up. Quarantine the ill and vulnerable and let the rest choose.
So if any of these pupils, who may have been in contact with the staff member have travelled on the buses then surely more people will have to isolate?? Not really working is it this app. People don’t listen and will continue to have the mentality of ‘not on my Island’. ‘I will do as I want, it’s a form of control’. These type of people need to wake the hell up.
The app will only work if everyone installs it. Sadly there are so many people who don’t believe this will effect them. As someone who had to shield for about 4 months I for one am concerned that the inconsiderate ones are the people who will cause deaths by not giving a toss.
I totally agree with you.
You will find it does not work. And if you think a virus just packs up and goes home, you clearly do not understand viruses either, you can not hide from it for ever…unless you have the new untested, experimental vaccine, which is coming.
Keep the elderly and sick isolated so they are safe. Then let everybody carryon as normal, that way
the virus will have nowhere else to go when everybody else has had it. Problem solved
That’s assuming a lifelong immunity, which has not been established yet?
So easy for you to suggest it Ron but you obviously haven’t thought it through in terms of difficulty to deploy it, the human loss and current unknowns about the virus itself.
Viruses just don`t disappear we have to learn to live with it…called herd immunity. 🙂
I think we are learning to live with it but it’s not called herd immunity, that is something completely different .
It says from Monday evening which is the 28th to the 6th of October. That is not 14 days
As the children have been of school for a long time perhaps half term needs to be with held over after all the little mites will soon catch up. They will learn more when they leave school anyway as we all have .Do you know it will soon be Christmas they can have extra days then.
The last person to cancel xmas was Cromwell. After his natural death they dug him up,hung him, beheaded him and stuck his head on a pole for weeks. Hancock/Johnson are you listening.
