STAFF GIVEN CHOICE OF ONLY VEGAN OR VEGETARIAN SNACKS AND LUNCHES AT NEWPORT NURSERY

STAFF GIVEN CHOICE OF ONLY VEGAN OR VEGETARIAN SNACKS AND LUNCHES AT NEWPORT NURSERY
Share on FacebookShare on X

Newport Nursery – part of the Tops Day Nurseries family – has decided to provide only vegetarian or vegan snacks and lunches to staff members as part of efforts to protect the environment.

The Isle of Wight centre is already a sustainability champion, having introduced many initiatives and policies in support of changing behaviour to protect the environment.

The new snack and lunch policy will include drinks and the milk provided for teas and coffees, which will be either oat or rice milk.

Article continues below this advertisement

Cheryl Hadland, Managing Director of Tops Day Nurseries, said:

“Anyone who wants to reduce their impact on the planet needs to reduce or cut their meat and dairy intake and eat a more plant-based diet. Add to this the cruelty factor of killing animals and tearing baby animals away from their mothers and you have the reasons why Tops Day Nurseries and Aspire Training Team buy only plant-based food for staff snacks and food for meetings. We want the children that we love and educate to have a chance at a healthy future and that means action now, by adults, to protect them from climate change.”

They are a fantastic nursery and this is a fantastic idea as long as they all are happy to do it good for them

once again, someone else is imposing their way of life on to others – what right do these vegans and vegetarians have to attempt to impose a meat free and dairy free diet onto others – they do not and if someone wishes to drink cows milk or eat meat and they attempt to stop them, it will be blatant discrimination and they will face legal action.

the climate has been changing for millions of years and will continue to do so without some arrogant human trying to dictate what others eat.

Perhaps then, we have stores/eateries etc that ban vegan and vegetarian food also – and the first complaint will be directed towards the discriminatory practice that is being permitted at this nursery

As it says in a nutshell they are trying to influence ‘saving the planet’ and to help towards stopping animal abuse. You dont have to eat there you can always go to some greasy junk food outlet. Anyone trying to promote healthy living and at the same time not being part to animal abuse should be commended. Your ‘rights’ seem to be more important to you than doing good in this world.

@nikki

the planet does not need saving and to think that humans are so influential is arrogant at its worst. I very much doubt you are too bothered about the de-forestation and destruction of the environment that takes place to acquire the metals that make that mobile phone you use each day – please research strip mining etc. – do you wear jewellrey? to get diamonds, gold, platinum and silver they dig up great swathes of the earth, destroying trees, plant life and animal habitat to get these pretty things humans like adorning theirselves with. Ever thought about that have you?. Next time you put on some jewellrey or switch your phone on, clamber in your car, turn on your microwave, have a think about how the materials were obtained to create them and what animal and plant life suffered to get the materials for these things.

you clearly define doing good as being vege or vegan by virtue of your comment, which means you discriminate against people for their choice of diet. It is a human beings fundamental right to eat whatever they choose to sustain theirselves. Human beings are naturally omnivore and have been since the first human arrived out of the primordial swamp.

Humans are not herbivore by design – it is a lifestyle choice and one that is not to be foisted on others against their will.

TVs, computers and mobile phones with LCD displays may contain cholesterol taken from animals. Should we all just move to a hut in the middle of nowhere?

Gelatin from animals is used in batteries to improve the metal structure. No vegan alternatives ..better get rid of your mobile phones then vegans, unless you are hypocrites and not committed to not using animal by products.

Most Flu shots contain egg.

most condoms are made with casein – a milk derivative. There are vegan options though.

Nearly all red food colouring is made from crushed insects.

Photo paper contains gelatin.

According to PETA, “Non-vegan varieties [of tattoo ink] may contain bone char, glycerin from animal fat, gelatin from hooves, or shellac from beetles.”

“not being part to animal abuse ”

if it’s your opinion that British farming (with probably one of the best animal welfare records in the world) is animal abuse, then please feel free to embrace the vegan ideology, but don’t try to use your own opinions to justify forcing it on the vast majority who don’t share the same opinion.

I accept that climate change is a problem, and am happy to reduce the amount of meat that I eat in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions if that helps (as I’m also happy to do many other things to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions) ,… but please don’t cloud the issue by trying to using animal rights as a lever.

As Omnivores, eating Meat is natural for Humans,…. the issue with its effect on climate change comes not from eating meat per se, but from the shear scale of production necessary to feed 7.7 billion people. Perhaps those wishing to promote the ideal of reducing global consumption of animals, and animal products, should consider starting with the issue of over population.

Did you give animals choice.? They don’t want to have their life taken because of your ‘choice’.. You are not obligated carnivore in fact it’s proven we have stomach the most similiar to herbivore and can all thrive on plant based food with many benefits along.. You didn’t give choice animal who doeasnt want to die or be exploited by humans.. so don’t talk about choice.. Look at view from victim point of view.. Not yours.. People eat animal products for greed NO need….

tell that to the lions, tigers and all the other carnivores out there – see how they feel about your opinions.

we kill to eat, just like they do – it is up to you if you want to live like a giraffe and eat leaves – the majority of the planet disagrees with you.

Oh yes.? Lion don’t breed zebras for example since their born to put them into slaughetrhouses or hook them onto machines breed them just so they can be eaten and exploited for human greed.. I repeat again You are not onligated carnivore as lion for example.. In fact We are herbivores even If you are able to eat animal products doesn’t mean They are good for you.. Cancer..heart disease.. diabetes.. etc it’s mostly because people eat animal products..
No matter what banal comments you come up with won’t justify your habits,,,,

This company is expressing their freedom by choosing what food to supply at meetings. Staff members are free to respond as they wish.

Are you saying that the state should get involved and dictate menu choices?

we are continuously bombarded with views of minority groups on how they need to be treated equally and that they are not being catered for, or how they are not being addressed by the right pronoun and demanding action…well the majority of society eat meat and dairy and expect to see their rights to eat meat and dairy as parents and children at this nursery respected.

The state should be involved if outlets try to ban staff from eating what they want.

without dairy, meat and plant you cannot get every vitamin you need

Vegans must take a vitamin b12 supplement or risk nerve damage and anaemia. As there is a requirement to take a non naturally occurring supplement that has been manufactured by humans, it goes without saying that a vegan diet is not healthy without a supplement.

Imagine you live in an area where no b12 supplements exist (including fortified cereals) – you must get it from meat or dairy, or you are likely suffer nerve damage and anaemia.

The natural human state is omnivore – that gives you everything you need, without supplementation.

We may have needed meat and dairy back in days long gone, but now we have access to supplements and can grow and harvest fruits and vegetables in an array which wasnt available in the past, meat is no longer the necessity it used to be thankfully and neither is dairy. People are stuck in their ways but once this generation have been and gone soon people will have grown up without relying on meat and dairy as much and those ways will be forgotten.

Get yourself educated..
B12 is not produced by any large organism. There’s a common myth that it is produced by animals. It’s not.

@Bill payer – of course you studied – blah blah – anyone can make claims from the anonymity of their keyboards.

As you have resorted to insults and suggestions of winding necks in, then I can see that my retorts are well aimed and accurate towards you.

sadly bill payer – you lost this argument due to a poorly constructed response – never mind eh.

a vegan is someone who does not eat or use animal products.

Batteries contain gelatin from animals as it improves the metal structure – there are no vegan batteries – I trust you will be ditching your mobile phone, Tv remotes, laptops, torches and anything else that uses batteries, as you are being a hypocrite just by using them.

and some people are so blinkered by their own twisted and obsessive idealogy, that if provided with the Facts, they refuse to see reality 🙁

On a more serious note, while such initiatives can be applauded, it shouldn’t restrict individual staff choices.

People Who Saying About ‘What About My Choice’ or ‘Why Vegans Push their opinions onto other’.. Did it occur to you that you are the ones Who push their beliefs onto innocent most vulnarable victims and those are animals..
We don’t live in Dark Ages anymore it’s 2020 It’s time to end this massive animal injustice people contribute to everyday by paying for animal products.. We all can thrive on plant based food so Why to add to unecessary suffering.. Educate yourself….

You should know better.. End speciesism.. You think you are superior.. If you really been smart You would have compassion not think You are king of jungle.. Put baby to a crib with apple and rabbit,, See What baby eats .. apple.. and play with rabbit.. Won’t go and rip rabbits as you compare yourself to lion….

@dystopian – your argument is flawed …baby will not eat rabbit, as rabbit will move or hurt baby if it tries – baby will eat apple, not because it knows it is food, because it wants to shove things in its mouth – babies will eat their own poo, after smearing it all over their faces.

@dystopian .You are clearly one deeply disturbed individual, I urge you too seek help .your views are rabid and based on lies .whoever has brainwashed you into believing this nonsense has done a great job .
More disturbing is that the people who made the decision ,think it’s ok to teach the kids that it’s ok to discriminate against people because of the lifestyle they choose to live .It’s tantamount to child abuse .

I am guessing that dystopian has never heard of a bait ball,……

Schools of small fish often cruise near the ocean’s surface, feeding on plankton and other organic foodstuff. This schooling behavior, sometimes referred to as a baitball, evolved as a means of protection. If a shark or other predator approaches, the group parts in unison – making it difficult for the invader to target a specific fish. As a result, this type of attack often fails.

Group hunting changes the odds. In a baitball feeding frenzy, a hunting party may consist of bottlenose dolphins, silky sharks, yellowfin tuna, rainbow runners, wahoo, marlin, jacks and even booby birds. They work in a cooperative effort to ensure a feast for all. A typical main course features teeming schools of juvenile jacks and chubs.

When a lone predator, usually a shark or dolphin, discovers one of these floating smorgasbords and attacks, a number of events are set into action. Frightened fish elicit a unique odor and other sharks in the area rush to the scene. The fleeing fish then intensify their frantic swimming patterns, alerting even more nearby predators.

Now, each member of the murderous team begins to execute its role. The silky sharks and bottlenose dolphins, which are usually mortal enemies, start to surround the school. Gradually, they increase speed and narrow their path, trapping the fish in a tight ball against the surface. Next, tuna and marlin rip through the center of the baitball, further disorientating the confused prey. Many of the injured bait fish quickly tire and are easily eaten. A full-blown baitball feeding frenzy leaves few survivors.

As predators become satiated, new enlistees arrive to continue the slaughter. Against the odds, small groups of baitfish may escape. They will continue to cruise pelagic waters, eating as much as they can as quickly as they can. Once again, the rule of the ocean is clear and simple: get as big as you can before you get eaten.
…..

None of these creatures are worrying about little fish rights and demanding that they all eat seaweed as it is plentiful and nutritious are they!!

You’ve only got to look at which comments are being voted up and which are voted down to get a sense of the opinion of the majority. Unfortunately, we live in a world that is dictated by minorities. “Mustn’t upset the snowflakes” seems to be the mantra of the government, councils and television companies. It appears it is now law to make sure that EVERY drama, sitcom, et-al, has to have a mixed race relationship and at least 2 characters from the lgbt brigade. Real life isn’t like that, but we are being brain-washed into feeling that it is. And woe betide anyone who speaks out! The race card will be played and/or homophobic labels are handed out in abundance. Freedom of speech, it seems, is now only a one way street. The Brits lauded black people and their culture. “Black is beautiful” was thrust down our throats. But what if it had been white artistes saying “white is beautiful”??? They would have been arrested and thrown in bloody jail! Incidentally, would it be ok for hetrosexuals to have a “Straight Pride” carnival this year? Imagine the response from the gay community!! Basically, it would be rather nice for the majority to have a voice again without fear of recrimination from the Guardian readers!

What an absolute joke. How did the kids and staff get to school to be able to eat their lunch in the first place? By car or bus? These vehicles are doing more harm than meat eaters.Get the snowflakes to walk or cycle!!
More importantly, have you smelt the odour from our vegetable eating animals – I pity the staff at Newport Nursery 🙂

How arrogant do you have to be to literally force your ideology down someone’s throat. You want to survive on rabbit food, that’s your own business. But denying others their main source of protein because of your views? Jog on.

And for anyone that says arrogant to think I’m entitled to eat animals you’re god dam right. My ancestors didn’t fight their way to the top of the food chain for me to defile their memory by surviving solely on a diet of plants. I love eating dead animals. Especially the ones I kill.
