St John’s Hill in Ryde is set to reopen tomorrow (Friday) following repairs to a water main that burst on Monday.
A spokesperson for Southern Water has confirmed to Island Echo this afternoon that a 7 inch water main had been repaired by 10:00 on Monday, however the burst had caused damage to the road surface which is now in the process of being repaired.
Visiting the site near to Lower Highland Road in Oakfield on Wednesday evening, Island Echo photographed the road condition with several cracks and a raised carriageway witnessed.
Southern Water has told Island Echo that the road should reopen tomorrow. Work is underway this afternoon to resurface sections of the carriageway.
Motorists travelling through and around Ryde have been disrupted by the closure of the main through road, with nearby residents blaming the closure as the reason behind a road traffic collision on High Park Road on Tuesday.
This latest incident comes following months of disruption to motorists and homeowners for water main replacement work on St John’s Hill, which then needed replacing itself.
