Family, friends and colleagues of Gary Slater will pay tribute to the much-loved Southern Vectis driver on Friday, when he is laid to rest.
Gary had been a member of the bus operator’s close-knit team since 1984 when he joined as a customer advisor. In 2008, Gary became a driver and was highly valued by all those who travelled with him.
He sadly passed away on 21st October.
Simon Moye, Operations Manager at Southern Vectis, has said:
“Gary was much loved by colleagues and customers alike – and we always received compliments about him.
“His funeral takes place on Friday 4 December, and the procession will pass through Newport Bus Station at 11.15am, so people have a chance to pay their respects. At the same time, Southern Vectis drivers may pull over – if it is safe to do so – for a minute’s silence to remember Gary.
“This is a very sad time for us all, and our thoughts are with Gary’s family and friends as they come to terms with his loss.”
Gary’s family have asked for any donations to be made to Aspire, a local charity that he supported.

RIP, always very polite and very good driver.
Lovely man. I worked with him for many years on the buses and the road trains. Sadly missed. Dobbo
