Firefighters from Shanklin have extinguished a small grass fire in Lake this evening, believed to have been started by youths.
One appliance from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was mobilised to Battery Gardens opposite The Heights at 19:35, where it was discovered a small area of pampas grass was alight.
Island Echo understands the fire was started on purpose by youths.
Islanders are being reminded about the dangers of fire during dry periods such as the one we are currently experiencing. More hot and humid weather is set to move in next week, increasing the risk to both life and property.
This checklist produced by the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is aimed to help keep you and the countryside safe.
