WIGHTLINK Islanders skipper Danny Warwick has vowed to put his personal disappointment at failing to qualify for this year’s British Masters Grasstrack Championship behind him and lead his side to victory in their next home National League match against the King’ Lynn Starlets on Tuesday of next week (5th June).
With the originally scheduled away match at King’s Lynn this week postponed until later in the season, it means that it’ll be the first time Danny and his team mates will take to the track in team action since their hard fought 48-42 home win over Stoke last week.
Danny simply loves racing motorbikes and in addition to riding speedway, he also races on the grasstrack circuits and in beach races too. He was fully expected to win through to this year’s British Masters but a broken rocker arm in his No.1 engine early in his qualifier near Exeter last weekend meant he had to change power units in his bike causing him to miss a couple of his programmed rides.
Whilst he was able to get the bike going before the end of proceedings, he sadly did not amass enough points from his last rides to see him amongst the qualifiers for this year’s Masters but that has made him even more determined to now lead the Wightlink Islanders to home success over King’s Lynn.
“Rest assured I’m very determined to put my personal disappointment last weekend behind me,” he said, “and absolutely determined to take it out on King’s Lynn by leading us to victory at Smallbrook.
Match round-up…
The biggest crowd of the season at Smallbrook so far were treated to some top class action in our last home match on May 22nd as the Wightlink Islanders extracted revenge over Stoke for their earlier aggregate Wightlink Trophy defeat by beating the Potters 48-42.
Both sides battled to establish supremacy throughout and there was never more than six points separating the sides from start to finish and Danny Warwick and his side had to wait until the penultimate race of the night to clinch victory with Aaron Baseby and Gary Cottham romping to a maximum 5-1 advantage to put the home side six points clear and in an unassailable position
