A video has emerged online appearing to show a young child sitting behind the wheel of a Skoda whilst driving along a busy main road between Ryde and Sandown.
The vehicle and its underage driver – who appeared to be sat on an adult’s lap – was spotted by stunned members of the public turning from Marshcombe Shute onto Morton Road at Yarbrigde.
The small child’s head can be seen protruding over the steering wheel – just.
It’s believed that the incident occurred back in May but the dashcam footage has only recently emerged, being posted anonymously in local Facebook Groups.
It’s known that the same vehicle went on to fail its MOT in June due to a defective tyre, although it has since been given a clean bill of health.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was approached for comment but said that the incident had not been reported to them.
Funny how it’s been all over internet and Facebook but police not seen it. Why should public have to report everything before police act ?. In old day’s police observed and dealt,now unless reported and can blame the person reporting and forcing to give statement and go court police don’t act. Police have now seen it- they monitor Media so act please for safety of this grandchild .

I the police say the incident has not been reported to them, just send them the video and ask them what they are going to do about it. Probably nothing, as usual.
Owners should be shamed, show the number plate, pathetic stupid idiots to put that child’s life at risk!

So you would be quite happy then if the vehicle in question was involved in an RTC and the child was seriously or fatally injured, still be a legend in your eyes would it.

Mostly certain types/ families all doing this. Seen them myself driving like it along Brading Road. Idiots, should be banned. Same pratts who wear blue gloves all day thinking they are being covid aware! Picking the kids up in and out of the car too. You know who you are!!
For the Record, this incident was reported to the police back in May 2023 and video uploaded who decided not to take any action.
They should at least investigate, if nothing else the seatbelt and child safety seats laws were clearly broken, and the driver needs prosecuting.
Careful, police more likely to speak to whoever filmed it about daring to have a recording device, rather than the people breaking the law.
I saw a blonde Woman today in Bembridge driving a brown metallic 4×4 texting while driving & she went over the other side of the road, what an absolute idiot she was, I felt certain she was going to collide with something, these people are absolute tools.
