
In Division 1, Shanklin Warriors had another close match this week, this time against Ryde B, who comprise Joseph Chapman, Conal Howells and last year’s singles champion Hugh Idle.
Idle was player of the match with 3 wins out of 3, whilst Shanklin’s Don Hobbs and Michael Bulpitt took 2 each. The experience of Hobbs and Bulpitt led to an easy win over Ryde’s Howell and Chapman in the doubles, and the match ended in a draw.
Ryde D, comprising Martin Johnstone and 2 juniors – his son Lewis, and Ryan Cates, who has moved up to Division 1 from Division 3 last season – were in action against Havenstreet A and had an impressive win 8-2, with Cates winning all 3 of his games. Cates partnered with fellow junior Johnstone in the doubles, to win in 5 sets.

Division 2
Newport Vics B proved a force to be reckoned with in their 10-0 whitewash of Ryde Revellers, with Dave Newnham player of the match.
Ryde Relatives, comprising grandad Martin Dove and his twin grandsons Joseph and Ethan Millward enjoyed a 7-3 victory over Ryde Wight Knights with Ethan winning all 3 of his games.

Division 3
The experienced St Lawrence Lizards brought Shorwell Spinners down to earth this week with a 7-3 victory, although Shorwell’s Robert Wendes won 2 games, with his only loss being to St Lawrence’s Derek Pittard.
Ryde Rustic’s 91-year-old star Bert Paice was player of the match in their 9-1 victory over newcomers Ryde Frogs.
