Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club took 5 crews to the season-ending South Coast Championships at Netley Park, Southampton at the weekend.
The boy’s J16 quad produced the best result of the day finishing in the runners up spot behind Lymington.
The crew of Carter Horrix, Ollie Hatch, Arlo Adds, Ben Smith and Kayleigh Batchelor (cox) qualified comfortably for the final, where they faced some established crews from across the South. The crew acquitted themselves well beating Itchen into 2nd place right on the line.
The Ladies novice crew of Beth Katirewa, Damia Robert, Roxy Browne, Frances Kateriwa and Yas Wright (cox) produced an excellent result in their first competitive race with this lineup, securing 3rd spot on the podium.
There were 5th place finishes in their respective finals for both the J16 girl’s quad of Esme Walters, Damia Robert and the Katirewa sisters, as well as the Masters 40 crew of Kev Faithfull, Paul Gamble, Gary Burch, Andrew Tapsell and Ben Smith (cox).
The Men’s Novice Four of Adds, Gamble, Hatch, Smith and Batchelor narrowly missed out on a place in the final, finishing 4th in their heat.
