An inmate who head-butted a prison officer, chipping 3 of his teeth, has been handed a concurrent sentence to be served alongside his existing sentence for attempted rape.
Appearing via video link this morning (Friday) on his 39th birthday, Luke Anderson, currently of HMP Isle of Wight, admitted assault by beating of an emergency worker on 25th March 2023.
Lauren Stone, prosecuting, told the court that on the afternoon of the incident, Anderson and another male were spotted in House Unit 15 appearing to be drunk. The pair were told to return to their cells but Anderson became hostile and began shouting. A small fracas ensued.
Anderson was taken to the remand wing of the prison but it was during his transfer that he began to pull the officers along. Despite being told to slow down, Anderson continued to pull them along.
After being asked once more, Anderson turned to one of the officers and head-butted him in the face, forcing blood. The prison officer involved also suffered 3 chipped teeth.
Luke Anderson has a total of 39 previous convictions dating between 2004 and August 2022. He is currently serving a 7-and-a-half-year prison sentence for an attempted rape in Hastings. He will be on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life.
Defending, Nicholas Muir said that his client admitted that it was a ‘heat of the moment offence’ and that he has since apologised to the officer and the pair are getting along once again.
Magistrates told Anderson – who was sitting on the link puffing a vape – that he was to serve an 8-week prison sentence for his actions. Due to the 39-year-old being a serving prisoner with an earliest possible release date of February 2027, this sentence is to run concurrently.

All this nonsense about ‘concurrent’ sentences is a load of baloney. No matter how many offences, how many sentences at the same hearing, all the sentences should be consecutive,
I feel that in itself would be a deterrent to many of these scumbags. Build more prisons is the answer.

So true. His attack on the prison offer increases his prison cred and he will feel really proud, no actual punishment in reality. He is really riding high.
On the other hand a consecutive sentence would make him look like a loser.

Put him on normal location not a sex offenders unit, other prisoners will soon sort him out when they know he is a set offender.
