The final Wight Tri summer series event at Yaverland became a Duathlon after a sewage issue ruled out swimming.
Originally set as an Aquabike race, the event was swiftly adapted to a run-bike-run format due to water quality concerns. Athletes tackled a flat 2.5km run along the promenade, followed by a 10km cycle, and a final 2.5km run to the finish line.
The transition area was based at Yaverland Sailing Club, with competitors adjusting quickly to the revised course.
Among the standout performances, workmates and rivals Kev Downer and Arielle Elton-Waters were neck-and-neck coming off the bike, but it was Kev who edged ahead in the final run to take the lead.
Roy Young excelled in the nominated time challenge, finishing just 46 seconds off his prediction. The fastest overall finishers were Craig Wilson in 40:11 and Lucy Doorly in 50:45.
Organisers have extended thanks to the volunteer team of Neil Cooper, Martin Goodall, Liz Dunlop, Steve Dines, Mike Kimber, Annette Hickman and Paula Griffiths, as well as Yaverland Sailing Club for their continued support.
Although the summer series has now come to a close, Wight Tri have confirmed that the winter Duathlon calendar and other local events will be announced soon.
