UPDATED: Emergency services are responding to a serious road traffic collision on the outskirts of Wootton this morning (Thursday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have sent one appliance and a rescue tender to the scene on Whiterails Road near to Butterfly World. Police and paramedics are also responding.
The road has been closed in both directions from the junction with Briddlesford Road to Staplers Road.
Southern Vectis Route 9 buses via Staplers will divert via Long Lane and Briddlesford Road until further notice.
UPDATE @ 08:45 – One person has been freed by firefighters after a van collided into the rear of a lorry.
No one has been injured in the incident, however the two occupants of a Renault panel van have been taken to St Mary’s Hospital for check ups are being checked over by paramedics at the scene.
The incident is not as serious as first feared by emergency services.
The road remains closed in both directions whilst recovery of the van is arranged. The second vehicle has already been removed from the carriageway.
UPDATE @ 08:55 – Whiterails Road has now reopened in both directions.
The vehicle has been recovered by Stag Lane Motors.
