UPDATED: Emergency services are responding to a serious road traffic collision near Newtown in Porchfield this evening (Wednesday).
An immediate hard road closure has been put in place on Corf Road between Shalfleet and Town Lane, indicating the seriousness of the incident.
Resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, Police and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are on scene, alongside the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
The incident occurred at around 18:00.
UPDATE @ 19:10 – Island Echo understands a motorcyclist is in a life-threatening condition following a collision with a VW Beetle.
Corf Road is expected to remain closed for the rest of the evening as a full investigation is carried out. The Collision Investigation Unit from the mainland is understood to have been deployed to the incident.
UPDATE @ 21:20 – The Collision Investigation Unit is now on scene at Corf Road, where specialist officers will create a forensic map of the crash.
The road is unlikely to reopen before midnight.
It has been confirmed that the casualty has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was not required to airlift the motorcyclist to a mainland hospital…
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to issue a statement on the matter.
UPDATE THURSDAY – Sadly, Police have confirmed that a 30-year-old man has died as a result of yesterday’s road traffic collision.
