UPDATED: Emergency services are attending a serious, multi vehicle road traffic collision in Carisbrooke this afternoon (Tuesday)
2 cars have collided on Carisbrooke Road close to Cedar Hill roundabout. 1 of the vehicles has also crashed into a garden wall.
2 fire appliances from Newport, a rescue tender, 3 ambulances and Police are all on scene having been called to the incident just before 16:25.
Fire crews are working alongside paramedics to extricate 2 front-seat occupants of a red Nissan Note. The second vehicle involved is a black Hyundai Santa Fe.
The road has been closed in both directions resulting in diversions to Route 7 buses. Motorists should avoid the area, diverting via Wellington Road or Whitepit Lane.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are also attending a road traffic collision on St Mary’s roundabout, which is causing significant delays on the dual carriageway. A third incident is said to have occurred on Fairlee Road near to Island Harbour and involves a motorcyclist.
UPDATE @ 17:20 – A male and female – both in their 60s – have been extricated from their vehicle and transferred into awaiting ambulances. They are being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
UPDATE @ 17:45 – A mum and 3 children, who were travelling in the Santa Fe at the time of the collision, are being checked over by paramedics this afternoon. Thankfully they have escaped any serious injury but are expected to be conveyed to St Mary’s for a check up.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue are now standing down from the incident.
The road remains closed whilst investigations take place and recovery of the vehicles is arranged.
UPDATE @ 18:50 – A total of 6 people have been conveyed to hospital as a result of this afternoon’s collision, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has confirmed. None of those involved have suffered any life-threatening injuries.
A seventh person has also been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital following an unconnected motorcycle incident on Fairlee Road.
No one was injured in the earlier mentioned collision on St Mary’s roundabout which involved a Mazda and a Toyota.
Carisbrooke Road is expected to reopen shortly following recovery of the 2 cars.
UPDATE @ 21:30 – The vehicles have now been recovered and the road has reopened.
