Police officers raced to a popular seaside town today (Monday) to arrest two men following an assault last night, but were met with a bit of a watery problem.
A 26-year-old man was assaulted on Station Approach, Sandown at around 22:15 last night by two men, one of whom then stole personal belongings, it is alleged.
Officers received information shortly before 13:00 this lunchtime to suggest that the two suspects were in vicinity of the Esplanade and Pier Street in the town. Four police vehicles attended the scene and a 39-year-old local homeless man was located by Police in the sea off of Sandown Beach and after being persuaded to come ashore, was arrested on suspicion of assault.
Another suspect, believed to be a 24-year-old male, was also arrested nearby.
