UPDATED: Police are tonight conducting a search in The Bay area of Sandown, Lake and Shanklin.
The National Police Air Service helicopter is flying over the streets of Sandown with a significant Police presence in the area.
WightSAR – the Island’s volunteer search and rescue team – have been deployed in the last few minutes to assist Hampshire Constabulary.
UPDATE @ 22:09 – Island Echo understands the search is taking place for a missing 10-year-old girl named Lily, who is described as ‘mixed race’.
Police units are searching the surrounding areas of Sandown including Brading, Ashey and Ryde.
The Police helicopter is undertaking a wide sweep of the East side of the Island.
UPDATE @ 22:30 – It is understood the young child has been found at McDonalds in Ryde after running away.
Island Echo readers have reported that the child was acting suspiciously in the restaurant, prompting concerns to be raised.
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary have collected the girl, who had a child’s scooter with her. She has been returned home safe and well.
