UPDATED: Police are tonight (Wednesday) searching for a young boy who has gone missing in the Newport area.
The National Police Air Support Helicopter from Oxford is supporting officers on the ground in the search for the missing youngster, who is understood to be wearing his school uniform.
Police have been focusing their search on the Carisbrooke and Mount Joy areas, although the helicopter has flown as far afield as Ventnor.
UPDATE @ 20:50 – The young boy, believed to be an autistic lad from Ventnor, has been found safe and well in Shalfleet.
WightSAR, the Island’s volunteer search and rescue operation, were placed on standby to assist Hampshire Constabulary at 19:55 however were stood down at 20:25. It is believed the young boy had been missing for over 2 hours.
Police have concluded their search.
The mother of the boy says he is back home.
