Hotels, restaurants and shops on the Isle of Wight have all been inspected for food hygiene ratings in recent months.
They are judged by environmental health officers from the Isle of Wight Council and rated on a scale from 0 to 5, where 5 is the best.
Based on Food Standards Agency guidance, inspectors check how clean an establishment is, what conditions are like, how hygienic the food handling is and what food safety management procedures are in place.

Why Gibbs & Gurnell?
Yeah? I agree why? I wouldn’t eat there and didn’t know I could? What’s that all about
Lily’s Coffee Shop, Seaview.DONT show SCORES AT THE DOORS SO YOU WILL NEVER NO.
I would assume they have no stars and don’t want to advertise the fact. If they can’t be proud to advertise their rating I won’t go there.
I don’t believe any business is 5 star ☆☆☆☆☆
Show me a business whose employees do not stand outside
Smoking or Vaping or they go to the toilet and come out without
washing their hands.
This pandemic as not made people cleaner.
I will not enter any establishment where the employees stand outside the front or rear of the
premises Smoking or Vaping.
It’s a right turn off.
Not many places that don’t have staff that smoke, they don’t smoke inside so outside is their only choice, smoking is their right
Yes it is their right, but watch when they go back inside the premises
The dirty filthy B’stards do not wash their hands then they start serving
Customers.
Whether you are eating at a cheap seaside cafe like the cafe at the front of Sandown Pier,
Or the Chippy on Shanklin esplanade or Premier Sandown esplanade
All the workers smoke and vape outside.
Not a good advert for any business that sells food.
The red flags are probably the dirty filthy b’stards.
Eat at home, much healthier and cheaper.
Smoke and Vape free too.
So dining out brings the fear of God into you eating at a restaurant. I’m not sure if you think employer’s turn a blind eye to none hand washing or picking up the chicken that’s fallen on the floor and put on your plate, or the knife and folk polished and, wrapped correctly, but I can assure you being IOSH 5, I am H&S officer, it is a person’s right to smoke, obviously outside/smoke room.weather you like it or not its designated area. All kitchen have hand wash tallies, this is a track and chance,so if someone came down ill after eating, it minimus the risk and gives a rough idea of who was the culprit. Each person will have 30/40 wash tallies. Stranded. But if your still target and discriminate masks are 20pence and antibac is £1
From what I have seen, Health and safety does not exist on the Island.
Just because kitchens have hand wash tallies it does not mean
staff use them.
Mask wearing is actually unsafe long term and personally I do not
recommend the wearing of masks, in the long term they cause
health issues.
Any with a score of 1 or less should be immediately shut down until they can prove they reach a higher standard and then should be subject to regular inspections to ensure they are maintaining standards, public health is at risk with these disgusting businesses
Looks like Totland and Shanklin are the places to go for cheap food. See you there.
I’m unsure why Gibbs and Gurnell are on here? If you’re going to start inspecting retail and pharmacy premises you’ll have a field day! People DO NOT wash their hands in some after a loo visit, come on guys!
You’re still touching products that consumers are purchasing and sharing phones and equipment with your colleagues ;( you know who you are!
Gibbs and gurnell have the H/S check because medication is oral same principles as kitches
I am shocked to see House of Spice still open. I thought with a zero rating, posing a serious health risk, it would be forced to close until major improvements have been made.
IW Council couldn’t close a door behind them yet alone close a business down.
