35 sausage dogs attended the first-ever Dachshunds Café at the Newport branch of Richmonds Bakery on Saturday (26th February).
Richmonds Bakery owner Immy Bawdon owns a dachshund herself and named the café after her pet sausage dog Richmond. When asked where she had got the idea for a Dachshund Café from, Immy said:
“I had been to one in Southampton before. I organised a Dachshund Café in my bakery in Cowes, and then decided to hold a further event in our Newport branch. I think there must be hundreds of dachshunds on the Island. I’ve been on a walk with about 500 sausage dogs.”
When asked about the attraction of owning a dachshund, Immy told Island Echo:
“Dachshunds are human’s best friends. They are loving and affectionate. They are demanding but chilled.
“Sausage dogs get on very well with their own breed. We haven’t had any accidents or fights at the café.

Does Immy have any plans for further dog cafes…?
“I hope to make dog cafes a regular event with different breeds. In future, I would love to organise cafes featuring French bulldogs, pugs, and cockapoos”.

Let’s not forget the Jack Russell’s, there’s plenty of them over here too!

I admire people being brought together by their mutual interests during these recent unprecedented times.
However, I find that allowing a score of animals into a controlled food premise is unsanitary. We all know it is a dogs natural behavior to roll in feces, and to lick themselves clean before sniffing other dogs in concerning areas and this, along with all the fur left everywhere, with all of the dogs being touched by customers increase the chances of spreading

I for one will no longer use the services of this food establishment.
You are a very dreary man. I sincerely hope I never meet you in person.
No woman will ever love you.
Thank god someone talks sense
I’m sure they won’t miss your custom David
Taking sausage dogs into a bakery sounds a bit dangerous to me. Were they all counted in and counted back out again?
Barking mad thing to do.
