A well-known community fundraiser who fraudulently used a deceased person’s Blue Badge to park in Newport Town Centre has been fined £223.
51-year-old Sarah Tyrell-Jones, of Fitzroy Street in Sandown, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier today (Tuesday), where she pleaded guilty to a single count of fraud by false representation, contrary to the Fraud Act 2006.
Tyrell-Jones, a childminder, is known locally for her fundraising efforts, having previously raised over £50,000 for Breast Cancer charities.
Mary Maynard, prosecutor on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, told the court that on 22nd August last year, Tyrell-Jones used the Blue Badge to park her pink Suzuki Alto in a disabled bay in Newport’s Lugley Street car park.

The court heard how the badge belonged to Tyrell-Jones’ step-father-in-law, who died 3-months earlier, in May 2025.
A Traffic Enforcement Officer (TRO) slapped a penalty charge notice on the 51-year-old’s vehicle when he noticed the badge had expired. It was this encounter that exposed Tyrell-Jones’ fraudulent behaviour.
Tyrell-Jones was issued a parking ticket for parking on double yellow lines in Shanklin just days earlier, too.
Defending, Tom Cooke told the court that his client went to Newport to purchase her son some school shoes from Clarks.
It’s said that the 51-year-old was planning on using her son’s Blue Badge, but following a change in legislation, he was no longer entitled to one. When questioned, Tyrell-Jones said she knew she should not have used the other badge.
Magistrates – who told Tyrell-Jones ‘you know it was a silly thing to do’ – fined her £223 and ordered her to pay costs of £120 and £89 compensation.

Solicitor Cooke added “that she was planning on using her son’s Blue Badge” which is unlawful unless the person to whom the badge was issued is in the vehicle.
In any case the son was no longer entitled to a blue Badge, so that excuse is moot.
“Community” fundraiser eh?
And how much would have been raised if she hadn’t taken her bit first, ( fraud) without a doubt.
Agree.Her credibility has completely gone
I don’t know the woman, but if she has, as you claim, ‘without doubt’ taken from monies raised then take your concerns to the police to investigate.
last year she was telling people not to give money direct to the dog charities to give it to her and she would pass it on. The blue badge she was using that’s owner died she took over his life a got his house. She will con anyone.
I am 99 per cent certain he was not her father in law so why would she lie about that some of us on the island have been speculating for a while now about her intentions and this revelation does not surprise me.
Yet the Council allow numpties to park on
Double Yellow Lines and Pavements FREE OF CHARGE
Walk by the Old Tourist information centre opposite
Sandown Pier
Everyday there are vehicles in the “READY FOR IT”
Pedestrianised zone on Pavements and Double Yellow
Lines
AND NO ONE BATS AN EYE LID, MAYBE THE CIVIL ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ARE GIVEN A BACK HANDER!
JUST LOOK WHEN YOU DRIVE ROUND THE ISLAND THE AMOUNT
OF VEHICLES PARKED ON DOUBLE YELLOW LINES WITH NO
BADGES
PEOPLE TAKE THE PISS!
It’s the same in Prospect Road in Shanklin on theatre nights, I’d be surprised if emergency vehicles could get through.
Regent street Shanklin is the same, always a
Numpty parked outside the takeaway near
the jewellers / watch shop, a blue Ford 59 plate
TRAFFIC LAW IS NON-EXISTENT ON THE ISLAND
Sir Khan would have it towed away!
Seems like a genuine lack of forethought to me it’s such a shame I hope she rises above the humiliation of the court case and carries on her good deeds .! N
Stupid woman, her credibility has gone now, trust too, she raises money for charities check that out too? Did she really think she would get away with it? Good on the parking enforcement person.
Perhaps more “fund raising” to pay the money.
No excuses i wonder how many times she used it before she got caught. If her son needed a blue badge she would have got one for him and you cant excuse people from the law because they made money for charity its like saying a murderer should be let off because they raised money for charity. She did wrong and probably did it more than the time she got caught.
I am surprised the lady got caught because from
what I see on a daily basis vehicles without blue badges
park in disabled Bays and nothing gets done about it.
This happens in Ventnor opposite the CO-OP store
it also happens along Regent Street in Shanklin o/s the
CO-OP
Also along Union Street opposition Spoons
Lol
WHERE ARE THE CIVIL ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS
How long would she have used it for if she had not been caught
Gaining everything from the deceased man who was a great person and a great friend to her and then using his disabled badge is disgusting. Many people belive she is some kind of saint but some of us have said for a while something doesnt seem right with her. Alot of us doubt her integrity and have spoken about it often. If her son needed a disabled badge he would get one so using one fraudulent and probably not just at the time of getting caught is a criminal offence. We all struggle with parking around there but we dont break the law.
