UPDATED: Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat has been tasked to search the seas off the coast of Ventnor this morning (Wednesday) – their first shout of the year.
At approximately 08:30 this morning Solent Coastguard received a report from a member of the public informing them of a drifting kayak half a mile offshore, near to St Catherine’s Point.
The volunteer and independent lifeboat was requested to launch and investigate the report at around 09:00, making 28 knots towards the area. A passing leisure craft ‘Sebeema III’ picked up the kayak and then met with SSILB.
The lifeboat and her crew are continuing to search the coastline between Luccombe and St Catherine’s Point to establish if anyone has entered the water.
Island Echo understands Police have been in attendance at Wight Water at Lake, where a break in has occurred overnight. Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team are also in attendance and are liaising with the business.
UPDATE @ 12:34 – Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat have completed a search of the area this lunchtime and are now sweeping the area back to where the kayak came from to ensure no persons are in difficulties.
No missing persons have been reported in the area.
