Sandown will once again be entering the South & South East in Bloom competition, which for 2020 will be judged remotely.
Alan Jones, Chair of Sandown Community Association and Christine Jackson, Chair of Sandown Green Town Volunteers have confirmed that Sandown will be blooming this Summer, with volunteers having been busy improving the colourful planters and troughs throughout the town.
Sadly, because of COVID-19 and the need for social distancing, some plans have had to be deferred including the planters that were planned for the High Street and the Town Council’s plans for reintroducing hanging baskets.
This year’s South & South East in Bloom competition will be judged through photographs, so volunteers from Sandown Green Town will be out and about in July photographing the best of Sandown. The volunteers say that the work of local residents and businesses is vital to the town’s entry.
Flowers and gardening are increasingly being appreciated as promoting good health. In a tourist resort, it is vital to attracting and retaining visitors to the town and the floral exhibits are seen as life-enhancing.
The locally-held Sandown in Bloom will also be going ahead in 2020 with many local businesses and residents already putting in great efforts in throughout lockdown to produce stunning floral displays.
Entries should be from within Sandown boundaries and should be received by 7th July 2020. Details should be e-mailed to [email protected] or posted to Alan Jones, Chair, Sandown Community Association, 33 St. John’s Road, Sandown, PO36 8ES stating your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number and category entered number.
