Sandown Bowls Club is to launch the Sandown Bowling Academy in May.
The academy is part of the club’s plans to spread the word in the community about the sport of bowls and increase the numbers playing and supporting the club.
The aim is to give people a taste of the game, provide some free coaching to help people enjoy the game more, share some hints and tips on how the game works, and the social scene and provide a fun and inclusive environment where potential bowlers can socialise and get some exercise.
5 sessions aim to provide a relaxed introduction to bowls, a chance to get involved and find out what Sandown Bowls Club and the game offers.
The academy covers how to play the game with free coaching from qualified coaches. There will also be an explanation of membership costs, what they include and how the teams and club work, what you wear, the etiquette of the game, the social scene, how you get into a team, tourist matches, and internal competitions.
The first session is on Sunday 11th May – Club Open Day – between 10.30 and 16:00, with further sessions on the 4 following Sundays. The sessions are free.
The Academy is based at The Clubhouse, Sandham Gardens, Culver Parade, Sandown, Isle of Wight PO36 8AT.
