Ryde golfer Lynne Backshall produced the round of the day to lift the Sibyl Bennett Cup with 39 points at Newport Golf Club.
Newport Golf Club staged this year’s Isle of Wight Ladies Golf Association Sibyl Bennett Cup competition, one of the events forming part of the IWLGA annual championships.
A field of 18 golfers took to the course for the Stableford contest, with Backshall finishing top of the leaderboard after an excellent 39-point haul.
The battle for the runner-up spot proved far tighter, with Bev Carroll of Shanklin and Sandown taking 2nd place on countback after carding 37 points, the same total as Newport’s Elaine White.
Following the competition, IWLGA captain Stephanie Hart joined president Maggie Ankers in presenting the prizes to the leading players after another successful championships event on the Island golfing calendar.
