Strong crowds turned out for a special festive celebration in Ryde last night (Thursday) as the town lit up for the annual Merry and Bright event.
Late night shopping was on offer for those who ventured into town to enjoy everything on offer, including a festive-themed parade. Lanterns, street entertainment and costumed walkabout could also be seen in the Town Centre, which was truly bustling.
Activities were also taking place at St Thomas’s Square, Vernon Square and Minghella Square.
The Grinch, accompanied and ably abetted by Ryde Town Council dignitaries and the legendary Derek Sandy, officially welcomed everyone at Minghella Square for the switch on of the town’s 3 static Christmas Tree displays.
A spokesperson for The New Carnival Company, that organised the event, has said:
“We rocked it. Ryde was very merry. And very very bright tonite.
“Thanks everyone for making it special and supporting such a heart warming community event”.
