
Ryde B and Ryde A opened up a healthy lead at the top of the Isle of Wight Winter Table Tennis League after wins against Havenstreet and Newport respectively.
Match of the week was between top of the table Ryde A and Newport Vics A. Ryde’s Scott Lawson continued his unbeaten run this season and did not drop a set all evening. Lawson’s team mates Pat Thorley and Rob Smith both won 1 each, whilst Vics Dave Hilliam and Paul Freeborn were both on good form winning 2 each. The match rested on the doubles which Ryde’s Lawson and Smith won in 4 sets to give a victory to Ryde by 6 games to 4.
Ryde C and Ryde B both had easy victories against Havenstreet A and B teams respectively, with Keith Baker the only Havenstreet player to win a game, for the A team against Bryce Wilson of Ryde C.

3rd placed Ryde Revellers met Ryde Rangers in a closely fought match, with the Reveller’s Gourav Shah player of the match winning all his games, whilst team mate Nicola Turner won two, and they also played together in the doubles which they won in straight sets. The Ranger’s Alan Dennis was on form with two wins, whilst junior Zak Holbrook won one, and the match finished 7-3 to the Revellers.
Newport Vics B had an easy 9-1 win against Ryde Rockets, with Vic’s Rob Warren and Dave Newnham (who jointly lead the Division 2 averages table on 95%) both winning all their games, but the Rocket’s Trevor Percival (who has an 86% win average) spoilt the party with a victory over Vic’s Michael Jose.

Shorwell Saints had to fight all the way to gain a 6-4 victory over lower placed Ryde Frogs, with the Frog’s Lindsay Harper player of the match with 3 wins.
Ryde Apprentices’ junior player Robert Pope had a notable win against top ranked Tom Flood of St Lawrence Lizards, which was his team’s only win in a 9-1 defeat to the Division 3 leaders.
