RYDE SQUEEZE HOME IN NAIL BITER

Week 2 of the Junior Indoor Cricket Leagues saw 2 U12 sides from Newport and Bembridge go head to head.

Newport set a total of 97 with Luke Smallwood (26 not out) and Max Poynter (25 not out) top scoring. Bembridge, who were missing players, struggled to get close to the target and lost by 4 wkts.

The second game of the evening saw Ventnor and Ryde take each other on in the U12 league. Ventnor set Ryde 116 to win, with Sam Mills and Thomas Southcott putting on the bulk of the run as both finished 27 not out. Ryde were helped on their way to a 2wkt victory by some wayward bowling and a great knock from Max Bushby-Harris who finished 27no.

The only U14 fixture saw Shanklin take on Ryde. Archie Lucy (4-11) took 2 wickets with the first balls of the game and looked like he swung the game Shankin’s way. Sam Mill’s faultless 53 not out dragged Ryde up to 98 at the end of the 12 overs. This gave Ryde hope and their bowlers gave nothing away, making life difficult for the Shanklin’s batters.

It was Archie Lucy (33no) that kept Shankin on course for the win until the last over when no one could put bat on ball as Nathan Day bowled a maiden and secured a 1 run victory for Ryde.
