ISLE OF WIGHT UNDER14S BEAT CORNWALL BY 8 RUNS
The Isle of Wight U14s made the long journey to St Erme CC on Wednesday to face Cornwall U14s. Batting first, the Islanders made a solid start with captain Ian (60) leading the way on a wicket that was challenging at times. With the support of Liam G, who added impetus and struck a mature 61, finding the boundary and gaps well to secure his first County 50, the Island totalled 187-8 off their 40 overs. In response, Cornwall started well and the game was finely balanced throughout their innings. Liam G took 2-27, Toby (1-29) and Luka (2-26) bowled well, but Cornwall were always in the game. Ian, bowling at the death, picked up 2-30 and nearly killed off the game, with 11 year old Monty taking 2 great catches. Bertie was brought back on to clean bowl their last batter to secure an 8-run victory.
