RYDE RAIDERS SEE OFF ROYALS TO TAKE 3RD PLACE IN DIV 1: ISLE OF WIGHT TABLE TENNIS ROUND UP

In the penultimate week of the 2021/22 table tennis season, there were some close matches in Division 1 with Ryde Raiders involved in both.

First, the Rivals met Ryde Royals, who were lying 3rd, 1 point above the Raiders in 4th. A long evening of close games ensued, with the Raider’s Timothy Giles player of the match, winning all 3, including a victory over Hugh Idle in 5 sets, with nothing to choose between the 2 players.

The Royal’s Conal Howell took Giles to 5 but was beaten easily in the final set, then had to play another close 5 set match against the Raider’s Mike Prior, winning this one 11-9 in the last set.  The match ended 6-4 to the Raiders after a highly competitive doubles, with Rorke and Giles overcoming Idle and teammate Ricky Lock in 5 sets.

The Raiders’ Chapman and Timothy Giles got the better of Joyce and fellow player Michael Jose to take the game in 4 sets, and the match ended 6-4 to the Raiders.

Ryde A are back on top, with Shanklin Warriors in second and the Raiders have moved into 3rd place.
