A Ryde man who was seen performing a 3-car overtake on Fairlee Road before Christmas was found to be on drugs at the time.
Cameron Younie, 18, of Westfield Park in Ryde appeared before Magistrates at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday (23rd May) charged with drug driving.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that on the evening of 18th December at around 17:00 Younie was seen by Police on Fairlee Road in his Ford Fiesta travelling from Racecourse Roundabout heading towards Newport.
In what was described in Court as wet, rainy and dark driving conditions a Roads Policing Officer (RPU) caught Younie completing a 3-car-overtake on the busy road.
Officers caught up with the 18-year-old further along the road where they pulled him over. A strong smell of cannabis was noticeable in the vehicle the court heard.
A roadside drugs wipe returned a positive reading for cannabis and as a result, Younie was taken to Newport Police Station.
Here, a blood test was conducted which returned a reading for (THC) of 2.7ug/l – the legal limit is 2ug/l.
This was the 3rd time that Younie had been stopped by Police in 2022. In February of this year, he was given a 12-month driving ban.
Magistrates ordered that a pre-sentence report be compiled before the next hearing on 30th June. Younie – who is currently working in Turkey – will have to make travel arrangements to return to the Island on that date.

Instant imprisonment for such an offence.
The idiot could have killed innocent people.
Once banned if a person re-offends surely it’s time to put the culprit away.
How many crimes are people allowed to carry out before they finally get banged up!
One crime can be excused, but after that the offender is taking the p*ss.
Good heavens a young “driver” driving dangerously, obviously the paper must have got his age wrong as according to the ageist trolls that infect this channel only “elderly” motorists behave like this.
Dont worry that he isn’t on the island as there are plenty more trash drivers of similar age to keep up the good work.
No reg old people seem to crash a lot, this lad didn’t crash, I expect at the front of the 3 cars he overtook was some old timer doing 15mph in a Honda or Kia
Take this stupid, immature 18 year old off the island’s roads. He could have killed people. IMO the age for driving a car should be increased to 21. Kids, and that’s what they are, are just to immature these days. I hope he gets banned for a long time and a hefty fine.
Good lad shows me up just I have not been caught
Wouldn’t it be easier and more cost-effective, rather than wasting time on pre-sentence reports and arranging Court dates that the person charged might not even bother to attend, just to ban him from re-entering the country?
It seems like an ideal opportunity to stop someone who obviously has no respect for the law (stopped by police 3 times in 2022 and given a 12 month driving ban which he ignored) from reoffending again, which he obviously will do if he returns.
Bets on him not turning up…
How can any amount be legal as it is an illegal substance? As long as he is
not on the island that can only be good, feral drug taking scum. Shame he is not being tried in Turkey, would get a much more deserved punishment.
The family are of Oakfield’s finest fame.
Scattered clones with dimbo womb providers all costing society a fortune in several houses each cot and bedroom soon filled with equally useless dna to ensure that the next generation have even more trash to ruin society for decent people. Whilst the ‘father’ moves on to the next peroxide, long lashed, long nailed womb owner.
Bang them all up, why does the country let scum ruin normal persons lives.
