A man from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of committing numerous offences including possession of an imitation firearm and possession of an offensive weapon following a Police pursuit in Newport earlier this afternoon (Friday). Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were called just before 14::00 to a report that of a man with a knife at an address in Nelson Road, Newport. The man then left in a silver Vauxhall Tigra and, after a short pursuit, was located in St Nicholas Close off Whitepit Lane. Police forced the vehicle to stop before forcing entry to the convertible motor by smashing the windows. A 38-year-old man from Ryde was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, assault, possession of an imitation firearm, possession of an offensive weapon, failing to stop and drug driving. The male remains in custody.
