49-year-old Daniel Sprooles has been given a 6-month driving ban after admitting driving without due care and attention – but the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency (DVLA) has already revoked his licence indefinitely.
Sprooles, of East Hill Road in Ryde, appeared before Magistrates on Tuesday charged with driving whilst unfit through drugs, however, that charge was withdrawn and replaced with driving without due care and attention.
The court heard from the Crown Prosecution Service that on 5th March this year emergency services were called to a collision between Sprooles’ Ford Transit Connect and a Nissan Micra on Carpenters Road, near St Helens. Sprooles’ van was travelling too fast and was positioned on the wrong side of the road before t-boning the oncoming Micra.
Paramedics were called to the scene at around 17:00 and soon expressed concerns with Police about the amount of diazepam Sprooles had consumed.
Barry Arnett, defending, told the court that his client accepts he was responsible for the crash. Mr Arnett also detailed that Daniel was on a lot of prescription drugs at the time of the incident, including methadone.
The court also heard that the DVLA has already revoked Sprooles’ licence over his driving and health, with a chance he may never get it back.
Magistrates handed the unemployed 49-year-old a 6-month disqualification from driving and fined him £120. They also ordered him to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.

So the court give him a 6-month ban but the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency (DVLA) has already revoked his licence indefinitely and as for the fine what a joke he be back behind the wheel in no time
Can someone just please cut this guys legs off so he can’t use a car?!
What about his arms….
Needs taking out, permanently.
said who!!! the C.I.A..….
6 month ban???? They said that they revoked his license for good, so why give him a ban! Lock the waste of skin in jail!
What a joke. Our island magistrates must be the worst in the world, totally incompetent. Why do we have to put up with this? They should have been removed from office years ago.
well said !!! our iow police force …..IS….. the worse in the world for putting ridiculous things in front of the court wasting the tax payers money…
a life long drug addict and waster – will never change and will be addicted to some form of drug, whether it be prescription, illegal, or just shop bought, over the counter alcohol and tobacco, for the rest of his days, which won’t be that many, if he keeps this up.
just wondering who had made this comment ?? A police officer is my best bet. to know this mans history and privous life history you must be!! Also the said mans license was actually revoked for bad eye sigjt.. Im i the only person who thinks that most of the court related comments are made by policers away
I hear you brother, could not agree more, these wooden tops wouldn’t last a single day in the met !
What is the bloody point of our courts. Absolute joke , sick of reading stuff like this ,don’t know who’s worse this arseole or the judge!
Problem is, the judges, lawyers, MP’s, councillors etc, will have huge expensive cars, not just a car, but cars to use, fully fitted with all the latest safety equipment, their children will be taken to school in a huge 4×4 safe as can be from injury should some scumbucket like this cause an accident to them.
They, IF involved in such will have top insurance free car, if not wishing to use one of the several they own.
Whereas most of us only have one car, if it is smashed we walk, if like me the car is not large or top of the range then more likely to suffer injury if this cretin hits such.
THAT is WHY the judges don’t care.
Hang on, someone gits a bit drunk and falls of an e scooter hurting no one and gets 18 months ban. This guy stoned out of his head with no licence gets a 6 month ban after nearly killing someone?
As has been said countless times before – anything less than a custodial sentence is pointless and irrelevant – he is a serial non licence driver now, and he will be again. Depriving him of his liberty for a very long time is the only lesson it will understand.
Jails are too full to jail our own now with the worlds finest. That is why courts are seemingly soft, as they can now only jail the most vile.
SEE where many of the UK’s issues arise from, it is NOT coincidence of the timing of the unorganic swell in population
I feel terrible for the driver of the car he hit, he is the loser here.
Mind you, the judges need to live in the real world as some of the sentencing is beyond a joke.
