Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club celebrated the official opening of its brand new Padel Courts last weekend – the first of their kind on the Isle of Wight.
On Sunday 6th July, members and visitors gathered for a day of sport and celebration at the club’s grounds. Club Chairman Richard Hutchins, who has been a driving force behind the project, welcomed guests before Sandra Holmes from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight LTA cut a Wimbledon-themed ribbon to mark the official opening.
The Lawn Tennis Association supported the project with a generous grant, helping to bring Padel – one of the fastest-growing sports – to the Isle of Wight for the very first time.
Guests enjoyed an afternoon of Tennis, Croquet, Padel, Pickleball and Pétanque, along with homemade cakes and refreshments provided by club members. Many new faces visited for the open day, with the club now encouraging anyone interested to get in touch and try out the new courts or any of the other sports on offer.
