Newport Vics A’s Dave Hilliam

Newport went head-to-head against Ryde in 2 matches this week, with Ryde taking the Division 1 honours both times.

Ryde A’s dominance continued with an 8-2 victory over Vics A, with the Vics’ Dave Hilliam and John Cornforth both gaining 1 win over Ryde’s Roger Nevell. Teammates Glenn Morley and Alex Rorke were untroubled in their straight-set victories. Ryde A now lead the table by 24 points over Shanklin Sharks, who have a game in hand.

Vics B took on Ryde Royals and a similar situation ensued, with Vics’ Sean and Anna Joyce winning 1 game each against David Batten, although Anna took Ryde’s Ricky Lock and Hugh Idle to 5 sets but ultimately lost out at the end.  The match ended 8-2 to Ryde.

Ryde Rascals met Freshwater A in a hotly contested match and gained a notable 7-3 victory with Ryde’s Alison Botha, John Featherstone and Brian Voller all winning 2, but Freshwater’s Lawrence Fo was unbeaten. The doubles went to 5 sets with Featherstone and Voller taking the final set 15-13 against Fo and teammate John Linington.

Newport Vics C continued their dominance with a 9-1 victory over Shanklin B, putting them 17 points ahead of Havenstreet Locos in second place.

Shanklin B 1 Newport Vics C 9

Ryde Revellers have stretched their lead to 10 points over St Lawrence Lizards after their 8-2 victory over Newport Vics E, although St Lawrence have a game in hand. The Revellers Alan Burch won all his games and improved his average to over 90%.
