After a break over the Christmas period, action in the Isle of Wight Winter table tennis league returned last week.
It’s been quiet in Division 1 with only 2 matches played since the Christmas break, but Ryde A continue their dominance at the top of Division 1 after any easy win over Ryde D. Despite losing the match, the D team’s junior Ryan Cates scored a fine win in 5 sets over Rob Smith, and was also involved in the doubles win with team mate Martin Johnstone, and the match ended 7-3 to the A team.
A closer match was that between Ryde C and Shanklin Skuas, with Shanklin’s Graham Evans and Paul Rainford both on good form, winning 2 each, whilst team mate Tom Waddell had a good win over Bryce Wilson. With the match lying at 5-4 to Shanklin going into the doubles, Evans and Rainford won in 4 sets against Ryde’s Alex Rorke and Tim Giles and the match ended 6-4 to Shanklin.
