Ryde C took back the lead at the top of the local table tennis league with a 9-1 drubbing of Newport Vics A. Ryde’s Paul Rainford, Ryan Cates and Graham Evans were all on top form, with Evans the only player to lose a game, against Newport’s Dave Hilliam. Ryde C were in action again this week against Shanklin A, which they found a little harder. Shanklin’s Mike Bulpitt won 2 games, whilst teammate Don Hobbs won one; however, the final result was 7-3 to Ryde. Two mid-table Ryde teams – the Goshawks and the Ravens – enjoyed a close match with some exciting games. The Goshawk’s Ricky Lock was on top form and won all 3, whilst teammate Conal Howells won 2, and the Raven’s Spike Hughes played particularly well to also take 2. The match ended 7-3 to the Goshawks.
