A Ryde man who put a pillow over a woman’s head in a terrifying act of suffocation has been jailed for more than 3 years.
30-year-old Bogdan Mistreanu, of Monkton Street, has been sentenced before the Isle of Wight Crown Court after pleading guilty to a series of violent domestic abuse offences at an earlier hearing back in January.
The court heard that on 14th December last year, Mistreanu intentionally suffocated a woman by placing a pillow over her head, restricting her ability to breathe.
Mistreanu – a Romanian national – also committed other offences against the same individual, including intentionally strangling her on multiple occasions between January and December 2025, and assaulting her, occasioning actual bodily harm.
In addition, he admitted to engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour towards the victim, causing her to fear violence would be used against her on at least 2 occasions.
A separate incident saw Mistreanu assault a male by beating, to which he also pleaded guilty.
Appearing before His Honour Judge Newtown-Price KC last Friday (24th April), Mistreanu was sentenced to a total of 3 years and 4 months’ imprisonment, with all sentences to run concurrently.
A restraining order has been imposed, preventing him from contacting his 2 victims and banning him from entering a specific road in Ryde. The order will remain in place until further notice.
The court also imposed a victim surcharge of £228, to be paid upon release.
Bogdan Mistreanu is no stranger to the courts. In 2021, he appeared before magistrates, where he pleaded guilty to criminal damage and 2 counts of assault by beating.

Needs a longer sentence obviously not learnt since
2021
More proof people don’t change they only get worse.
Once a Numpty always a Numpty!
so why has a deportation order not been put in place after his release, and what a pathetic sentence for the suffering he inflicted on his female victim and the attack on the male …very poor sentencing indeed
Exactly, he should of deported, also he’s not a Ryde man he wasn’t born in Ryde, he a Romanian migrant, the reporter needs to state the proper facts.
Fully agree deport the twat, show a message to all the other imported scum, this broken country will not tolerate their ‘do as they like’ attitude towards the genuine citizens of this once great nation.
Thanks to the last few inept governments a wave of useless dregs have come here for a free ride, depleting resources, knowing if worst case, prison will be fine, all paid legal representation, treated like bone china.
And still the wet lefties open their arms and welcome this dross in.
I fully support your comments, well said. He is a coward and a piece of human filth.
Some B/S from the do gooders about his human rights I expect
If someone is convicted of an offence and commited to prison and are a foreign national, they will be considered for deportation. At the moment, they have to serve part of their sentence here and then be considered for deportation so this man may find himslef subject to deportation at some point. The current government is changing the law to significantly reduce and hopefully remove the time period that has to be served here so foreign national offenders can be deported sooner. They are then debarred from returning to the UK. So in this instance, the longer he had been committed to prison for, the longer it would take to deport him.
I really struggle to see why our judicial system can’t do consecutive sentencing. Serve your sentence for the first crime then go to the next and the next…Said before rehabilitation is OK but prison is still supposed to be a punishment not a holiday camp. Prison rewards should be earned not a right and as soon as you are convicted your own rights are removed. Our system nowadays seems to give prisoners a lot more rights than victims.
I’m beginning to wonder if I would have been better off being a scum bag instead of working for 50 years, and then getting betrayed by the government by taxing me on my pension. The only ”benefit” to be victimized for tax and age discrimination. If I had been a scum bag, I would have had a life time of everything for free no questions ever asked. WHAT A BLOODY MUG
You are spot on, scumbags are laughing at the
tax payers.
AND THEY WILL GET A FREE PENSION ETC ETC
Working in 2026 Britain is a mug’s game unless shirking
for the Public sector
‘Ryde Man’? Surely you mean Bucharest man, living and causing grief in Ryde and elsewhere? Poor chap probably fleeing from oppression, persecution and violence in his own land. Perhaps we taxpayers should dig deep to make his wretched life more bearable. Oh, you say we already are….?
So out in half ..that’s good then then a life on benefits..
