RYDE A TOP ISLE OF WIGHT TABLE TENNIS DIV 1 TABLE BY BEATING SHANKLIN

Ryde A stay on top of Division 1 after a comfortable 8-2 victory over Shanklin A.

Ryde Ravens played an excellent match this week as they held Shanklin A to a draw.

The Raven’s Steve Mills was player of the match and unbeaten, whilst team mate Joe Chapman had 2 hard fought 5 set victories over Shanklin’s Michael Bulpitt and Jim Hall.  Bulpitt and team mate Mike Turner were successful against Chapman and Mills in the deciding doubles at the end of the evening, winning in 4 sets to claim the draw.

Ryde Reprobates made short work of Newport Vics B with Hugh Idle, Martin and Lewis Johnstone all untroubled in their games and winning the match 10-0, leaving Vics B languishing at the bottom of the table.

In Division 2…

Havenstreet Hooters had 2 matches to complete this week and were in top form as they beat 2nd placed Ryde Rascals easily by 8 games to 2.

Player of the match was Havenstreet’s Alan Hulbert, with team mate Karen King also winning all 3. Havenstreet then had to meet Division 2 leaders Newport Vics C, and this proved an extremely close match.  Nobody could get the better of Vics C’s top ranked Lawrence Fo, who is unbeaten all season. Fo’s team mate Paul Lewis had an exhausting evening, with all his games going to 5 sets, which culminated in a win over Havenstreet’s Dave Rendle, and 2 losses against Paul White and Mike Prior. However, Fo and Lewis took the doubles easily against White and Rendle, and the match ended in a draw. Havenstreet moved into 2nd place over Ryde Rascals and 15 points behind Newport Vics C. Division 2 Results

In Division 3…

Match of the week in Division 3 was between Ryde Rustics and Ryde Retailers, with the Rustic’s Phil Stevens and Frank Kelly both on great form to win 2 games each against the higher ranked team.  The Retailer’s junior Joe Millward and team mate Shane Cates also won 2 matches each.  The match rested on the doubles, which the Rustic’s Stevens and Kelly won against Cates and Millward, culminating in the final result being a draw. Newport Vics D increased their lead at the top of the table to a now unbeatable 42 points after a 9-1 win over 3rd placed Shorwell Saints. Division 3 Results

Monday and Wednesday social table tennis sessions at Isle of Wight Table Tennis Centre

Looking to meet new friends whilst keeping your mind and body active?  Social table tennis sessions are held at the Isle of Wight Table Tennis Centre at Smallbrook Stadium in Ryde every Monday and Wednesday morning between 9:00 and 12:00, at the cost of £4 per session, which is payable by card only.
