It was a week of close matches in Division 1, except for Ryde A’s drubbing of Newport Vics B, who were at the end of another 10-0 defeat.

3rd-placed Shanklin Warriors met Ryde Rivals in a tight match, despite the Raider’s Alex Rorke winning all 3 of his games.  Shanklin’s Don Hobbs had to fight hard in all his games, losing to Rorke in 4 sets and Timothy Giles in 5, but then beating Mike Prior in 5. The Rivals won the doubles easily, culminating in the match ending in a draw.

2nd-placed Ryde Royals met Newport Vics A in an exciting, close fought match, with Vic’s Dave Hilliam player of the match, winning all three of his games.  Vic’s John Cornforth was also on form, winning two games, although the Royal’s Ricky Lock took him to the final set.  Lock also won 2, with a victory over Vic’s Paul Freeborn.  Vic’s went into the doubles leading 5-4 and after a long thrilling game of five sets, the Royals pair of Lock and teammate Timothy Giles took the final set with ease and the match ended as a draw.
