It was a black Saturday for all Isle of Wight cricket sides against North Island opposition, with 4 defeats and no wins. Ryde 2nds were beaten by a massive 374 runs by Ampfield & North Baddesley in Hampshire Division 4 (South). After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Ampfield made a gargantuan 412 runs in their 45 overs. Opener Ramnik Behar scored an incredible 233 runs off 144 balls for the home side, including 41 fours and a six. Alex Barton (2-87) returned the best bowling figures for Ryde. Ryde could only manage 38 runs in reply before being skittled out in the 16th over, with Alex Barton top scoring with 11 runs. Ryde 1sts were beaten by Bournemouth 2nds by 5 wickets at Harding Shute. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Ryde could only manage a modest 143 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 45 overs. Ellis Ridett top scored for the home side with just 22 runs off 50 balls before being clean bowled by Matthew King. Bournemouth surpassed the Ryde total in the 38th over with Sarang Urankar top scoring for the visitors with an unbeaten 40. Ian Hailes (3-30) came away with the best bowling figures for the home side. In Southern Premier Division 1, Ventnor slumped to a 3rd successive defeat, this time against Sarisbury Athletic. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Sarisbury made a respectable 246 for the loss of 9 wickets in their 50 overs. Rob Snell (3-56) was the pick of the Ventnor bowlers, With Dineth Thimodya (2-38) and Daniel Cox (2-49) both taking braces of wickets. Ventnor – who were skittled out in the 47th over – fell 39 runs short. Thimodya top scored with 66 before being caught by Tom Morton off the bowling of Pascoe, with Dan Cox (59) also making a half century before being clean bowled by Pascoe. Sarisbury Athletic 246/9 Ventnor 207 all out – Sarisbury Athletic won by 39 runs Ventnor’s defeat leaves them 7th in the table with a points average of 11.69. Ventnor 2nds remain top of Division 3 (South) with 2 games of the season remaining after New Milton 2nds conceded their game at Steephill.
Shanklin & Godshill were beaten by Old Netley & Highfield at Westhill. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Old Netley made 247 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 45 overs. Matt Lambourne (3-46) returned the best bowling figures for Shanklin with Tom Quaife (2-39) taking a brace of wickets. Shanklin fell 21 runs short of their target and were bowled out in the 43rd over. Harry Moore was the most prolific Shanklin batsman, hitting 72 runs before being run out by Touqeer Ahmed.
