A minor road traffic incident at Racecourse Roundabout in Whippingham is causing significant tailbacks for traffic heading out of Newport this afternoon (Wednesday). Police and paramedics are in attendance on Racecourse, which has been brought down to a single lane, owing to an incident involving at least 1 motorcycle. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has an ambulance, operational commander and critical care paramedic on scene. Traffic is backed up all the way to Medina College as workers head home for the day. Motorists should avoid the area for the time being, although the incident is expected to be cleared shortly. UPDATE – The scene has now been cleared allowing traffic to flow freely again. It’s understood 2 motorcycles were involved in the incident.
