ELDERLY MAN IN CAR COLLISION

policeUPDATED – Police have closed a main road in Shanklin this lunchtime following a serious road traffic collision.

Landguard Road, Shanklin has been closed at the junction of Clarendon Road and the High Street.

Island Echo understand a pedestrian has been involved in the incident.

UPDATE @ 12:10 – One male has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital after colliding with a currently unknown vehicle in Shanklin, it has been confirmed.

Police have now been able to re-open the road.

UPDATE @ 14:50 – Officers from the Roads Policing Unit are this afternoon appealing for witnesses to come forward following the serious road traffic collision at lunchtime.

The vehicle, a red Renault Megane cabriolet was travelling towards the High Street in Shanklin when it collided with a man.

The pedestrian, a man believed to be in his 80s, suffered a serious head and chest injury and was taken to hospital by ambulance. He is currently in a stable condition.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either party prior to it.
