41-year-old Nigel Brayley has been disqualified from driving for 2 years after being found guilty of failing to provide following a crash near Apse Heath.
On 16th July this year, Brayley, of Clarence Road in Wroxall, was driving along Canteen Road when he collided with a wall, before continuing up the road and coming to rest against a hedge.
At the roadside, he gave a breath test reading which was more than double the legal drink drive limit. He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, where his injuries were assessed and he was deemed okay to be taken into custody at Newport Police Station.
However, it was at the custody suite where he failed to provide an evidential sample. When asked to provide a specimen of breath, the roofer failed to provide without reasonable excuse to do so.
He was subsequently charged with failing to provide a specimen and appeared in court on 19th August, where he pleaded not guilty. He was found guilty of the offence following a trial at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court yesterday (Tuesday).
Magistrates banned Brayley from driving for 24 months and ordered him to pay a £1,500 fine and £650 costs.
What’s the betting he will still be driving around.
Walk into any pub at 4pm and it’ll be full of builders having a few points before driving home.
Police should do random morning checks on builders and civil engineering companies including Island Roads etc
They will make a fortune.

Police will be busy now every time they see one of his vans they will be pulling it over

Drink drivers should be banned for life together with drug drivers, they don’t care who they put in danger.
The insurance companies could help by refusing to insure them in the future.
