UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending a roof fire at a property in Clatterford near Carisbrooke tonight (Wednesday).

2 appliances from Newport and 1 from Cowes are on scene having been alerted to a chimney fire at just before 23:45.

A further appliance and aerial ladder platform have been requested.

The fire is well developed.

Bowcombe Road between Waverley roundabout and Shorwell has been closed.

UPDATE @ 00:22 – 5 appliances, an aerial ladder platform and the Incident Command Unit are now all on scene.

Firefighters from Newport, Cowes, East Cowes and Ryde are tackling the blaze using breathing apparatus.

UPDATE @ 00:40 – A water carrier from Freshwater is assisting with water supply in the rural location. Meanwhile the aerial ladder platform has re-positioned and is now providing top cover.

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service’s Chaplain is offering support to those affected.

UPDATE @ 01:02 – The detached residential dwelling is understood to be occupied by 2 people and at least 4 dogs. They have escaped uninjured.

A sixth pump from Shanklin is en-route to the scene as firefighting efforts continue.

Bowcombe Road is to remain closed throughout the night.

UPDATE @ 08:34 – Bowcombe Road has now reopened to traffic in both directions.

Firefighters tackled the fire throughout the early hours of this morning, bringing it under control before sunrise. The operation came to an end shortly after 05:00.

Fire investigators are to return to Clatterford this morning to work towards establishing a cause. The Isle of Wight Council’s building inspectors are also expected on scene.
