With around 80% of the Isle of Wight vaccinated against COVID-19 it has been announced the Riverside Vaccination Centre in Newport will now only be open 3 days a week.
Currently, the Solent NHS Trust-run site at Newport Quay is open from 08:00-20:00, 7 days a week. However, from Monday (7th February) the centre will only be open on Wednesdays, Friday and Saturdays – but will maintain the opening hours of 08:00-20:00.
The vaccination centre will continue to offer walk-ins and appointments for:
- 1st and 2nd (after 12 weeks of the first dose) vaccinations for young people aged 12-15, as well as 16 and 17-year-olds
- 1st and 2nd (after 8 weeks of the first dose) vaccinations for people aged 18 and over
- Booster vaccinations to people over the age of 16 (3 months after second vaccination)
- 3rd dose and Booster dose (4th dose) for people who are immunocompromised
The vaccination offer will continue to be complemented by an array of pop-up clinics that Solent NHS Trust is running at venues across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, giving people an even wider range of opportunities to receive their first, second or booster vaccination.
Angela Anderson, Solent NHS Trust’s Clinical Director of COVID-19 vaccinations, has said:
“Our mass vaccination centres have been a great success – delivering over 750,000 vaccines to our communities since we first opened the doors to the public over a year ago.
“Our focus is now to offer more people the opportunity to take up the vaccines through our roving clinics. These sessions are proving to be an effective way to reach out to areas where vaccination take-up is lower.
“The COVID-19 vaccines are the best way to protect yourself and others from becoming seriously ill or have long-term effects from the virus. We continue to open up even more opportunities for people to get vaccinated – it is never too late to receive the vaccine.”
Over the next fortnight, a pop-up clinic will take place on Tuesday 8th February at The Heights Leisure Centre between 17:00-20:00.
People are also able to book an appointment through the National Booking System https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/.
Our vaccination sites have done an amazing job vaccinating everyone who chose to take the injection. Organisation was slow to get going second time around for the Booster, 3rd injection, but now adults and children can easily get their jab at Riverside Newport at a time and day to suit them.
Well done to all involved across the island. Thank you.
