Following the success of the last 2 events, ‘Going Electric’ returns to Newport on 28th July to showcase all things electric – with a new venue! A real buzz has been generated at previous events with 1,000 visitors exploring over 40 exhibition stands. 2024 is set to be bigger and better as it moves to Newport Quay and the neighbouring Riverside Centre to host the ever-popular day of talks. Going Electric – Island’s largest Electric Transport and Green Technology show – gives Islanders the opportunity to explore the latest electric cars, vans, bikes, solar panels, heat pumps, charging solutions and much more. It also features talks from leading experts on many aspects of the electric revolution and sustainable living. This free-to-attend event brings together the Island’s leading automotive dealers, showcasing MG, Mercedes, Peugeot, Ford, Volvo, Hyundai, VW, Mazda, Cupra, Skoda, KIA and Toyota with many with more still to be announced. The highly popular ‘Bike Zone’ will enable visitors to see and test ride the latest electric bikes. A dedicated ‘Meet the owner’ area provides the perfect opportunity to meet EV owners and ask questions about their day-to-day use of EV’s and how they fit into their lives.
Colin Palmer, Director of Wight Community Energy, comments:
“The world is going Electric, millions of EV’s are hitting the road each year, but the electric revolution is about much more than just cars. Wight Community Energy’s ‘Going Electric’ event will showcase the breadth and depth of this revolution in mobility and home energy, showing what is happening now and where the electric future will take us. It is going to be an exciting ride!”
Talks from leading experts are again sponsored by Red Funnel and will explore home and transport electrification, and the bigger picture of technology and sustainability. The refreshments area sponsored by PC Consultants is the perfect place to sit and relax between talks and exhibits during your visit. Ridge Clean Energy is the main sponsor and Power to Change supports the organiser, Wight Community Energy.

Who are they trying to kid? The electric vehicle bubble has well and truly burst, dealers cannot shift them and manufacturers are having to stockpile and then scrap new cars because they just aren’t selling as quickly as they are produced. That is why Ford, Honda, Suzuki and Toyota have stopped manufacturing them and are looking at making hydrogen vehicles instead. Anyone who buys a new electric vehicle will see it’s value plummet by as much as 75% the minute they leave the forecourt, and some dealers (including those selling electric cars) are refusing to take electric vehicles in part exchange, even when they are nearly new. Electric cars are dead in the water.
Some of what you say is true Paul, because of the governments ZEV mandate, the price of EV’s will plummet. However, EV’s are not “dead in the water”, as there is clearly a place for EV’s.
Akio Toyoda, owner of the world’s largest vehicle manufacturer Toyota, whom you cite, has said EV’s will level out at 30% of global vehicle sales. In fact Toyota & Lexus have 30 EV models expected in the next 5 years. But Toyota are focusing on a multi-fuel pathway; EV’s are one, but other vehicles will be powered by Hydrogen fusion, Hydrogen combustion, Hybrid, etc.
In the meantime, let those with more money then sense buy the first generation models. The rest of will buy when it’s better then the current option.
Infrastructure of the power grid cannot support electric cars so more people that get them the higher usage gets and the higher the bills get. However still cheaper then petrol for the moment the cost of repaired a petrol engine is much cheaper than replacing a battery for 15k.
If they’re right that ‘the world is going electric’ and that millions of electric cars are ‘hitting the road each year’ perhaps the organisers can tell us how and where the vast majority of people, all those who don’t have their own private driveways, are going to be able to charge their electric vehicles?
It’s senseless telling us to go electric and buy EVs when there’s no infrastructure in place.
Anyone without a driveway, anyone who has to street park, anyone who lives in a flat, maisonette or apartment, how are they supposed to charge their electric car? That’s literally millions of people here in the UK.
Maybe sort the infrastructure out first before jumping headlong into electric vehicles.
Understand, the leaders and elite aren’t stupid.
They KNOW that huge proportions of the public won’t be able to charge an electric car.
The elite DON’T WANT an ever increasing amount of cars of ANY kind on the roads.
This is a means to reduce cars , so eventually only the elite will own them as they used to do, and then they can drive on far less congested roads, whilst we all wobble around on electricity scooters or use public transportation with the drunk, drugged and mental low life and recently arrived flotsam
Think. HMG aren’t thick only those who can’t see what is going on are.
I don’t understand the point of electric cars surely they do not help the environment. We are having to mine
to get the products for the battery, what happens to the battery when it finishes it’s life, the weight of the car
smashes up our roads and special tyres have to be made using more rubber which eventually is washed of our roads into the rivers.
Putting everything into Electric is a disaster waiting, National Grid will not handle and having Nuclear power stations, that to build alone use so many of earth’s resources and cause more devastation than all oil and coal power stations in event of accident from bad weather. High chance of Viruses shutting down. I’ll keep my petrol car and diesel cars. I Have gas heating, log burner, imersion heater,Solar panels, generator and inverter to run off battery. Lot’s of rain water storage. So I’m good thanks.
Good god are morons still buying this rubbish?
Still plugging EVs, no one wants them.
Revved and ready? They’re electric. They don’t rev.
Hopefully it does not rain this time. 🙂
Ridge clean energy are the sponsor? That’s the solar developer who proposed to put panels below trees in an ancient woodland an ended up getting the council taken to high court? They also haven’t even developed their solar site yet, which will be on BMV and next to another TWO solar sites which are derelict. Electricity isn’t the future, it’s already history
In my house electricity is the future. With the money i get back after exporting surplus energy back to the grid from my solar panels it has covered the cost of my gas and electricity bills plus cash back for eight months of the year.
Great if you can afford the £12 grand plus to put it in..at todays rates take 15 years or so to get back..
All you idiots who couldn’t care less about the environment are the problem. Your children will be burning with the our children just because you are stupid.
Possibly check your grammar and punctuation before you accuse people of being idiots and stupid….
Maybe ignore the typo and heed the message you muppet. The clock is ticking and the world is dying. We know this is true and we need to act now.
True to form uneducated moron resorting to insults….
Maybe we can stop building these things and save plenty of fossil fuels in their production, thus we will have reduced emissions almost immediately and thus the planet is saved.
utter bollocks
English translation please thicko.
Just took delivery of my MG4. It’s the X Power version. Costs less than than one of those fat and useless fossil burning SUVs these boomerites love, costs peanuts to run and will out accelerate a Lamborghini (0-60 in 3.5 seconds).
Absolutely love it.
Congratulations you have bought an MG, quite possibly the worse car on the rd, your car now is worth half what you paid for it if not less than that, and comparing it to a Lamborghini is nuts, you will need a recharge after a couple 0-60s and you look like a looser, will smirk as I drive past you charging your MG milkfloat, but congrats for saving the world.
It’s all bollocks stop beliveing the crap from the elites..Get a life you muppet.
I’m relieved that you brain-dead chimps have no power over our future. Just sit there and be quiet while the rest of us save the planet.
Il be attending the event in my supercharged flathead V8 powered hot rod, built one piece at a time, that’s tax and mot exempt you know.
Crumbs that sounds fantastic i don’t think
Your supercharged flat head whatever belching toxic fumes is no match for the Tesla S plaid 0 to 60mph in 2 seconds get with the future or stay in the stone age
Make that 0-60 in 15 minutes and 2 seconds….
The Tesla Model S Plaid can go from 0 to 60 in less than two seconds, but it requires a lengthy set-up process, according to a report from MotorTrend.
The magazine tested the vehicle out and detailed an eight to 15-minute process that the Tesla must undergo in order to achieve its maximum acceleration speed.
All a bit academic anyway as by the time Ev’s are in any sort of majority we will all be restricted to where and when we can drive and if you think that will be at more than 20mph, think again.
And the Tesla is no match for a top fuel dragster that does 0 to 300mph in 4.5 seconds. Stone age rules.
And most of those “milk floats” will p*ss all over it.
On a recent fishing trip I caught, a common idiot, and a blinkerd twat fish, LMFAO
Can you all just stop getting yourself in a lather about speed, you cant do any more than 70 in the UK, much less on this precious over crowded Pyle of shyte!
A flathead v8 is from the 1930s ffs, I should hope modern stuff would be faster!
How many driver aids does a tesla have, the one that you sparkys keep banging on about ?
So you can do silly speed, oh wow.
Try keeping a hot rod on the road when all you’ve been brought up on is soy milk and government propaganda, you idiots won’t.
My work here is done
Chimps prattling on about nothing as usual. You are all just white noise. Nobody cares what you think because it doesn’t matter. Obviously, you will follow the rules as they are implemented in due course and be happy driving an electric car or taking the bus. There is no alternative.
I go to multiple track days every year… driving well above 70 is not only legal but required… keep it safe on the roads but enjoy a fast car where it belongs, on the racetrack!
Are they still pushing this crap??
Yup, mostly when they have run out of ‘leccy..
Sponsored by Ridge Clean Energy? Aren’t those the guys that lied on their solar application and faked bat surveys? I’ve seen their planning application for the solar farm and they didn’t include a fire break for the ancient woodland. Do they really care about nature? I don’t think so. I think the only thing they believe in is their own BS
