Outline planning permission to build new homes on land between Staplers Road and Long Lane in Newport is once again being sought by developers. Revised plans have been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council by Mrs C Ferns of Cotton Trust for a total of 12 houses, and associated vehicular and pedestrian access, off Landscape Lane. It was 4 years ago, in 2020, that planning permission was originally sought for 14 properties on the greenfield land. But plans were rejected by the local authority in January 2021 as being ‘cramped’ and ‘visually intrusive’. A year later, in January 2022, the plans were resubmitted but with 1 house removed, making a total of 13 new homes. It all went quiet until revised plans were then submitted in January of this year. Now, 6 months later, those revised plans have been further amended with another set of revised plans now published, with outline planning now sought for just 12 homes.
The application now presents a scheme consisting of 2x 4-bed detached houses, 3x 3-bed detached houses, 2x 3-bed detached houses, 1x 3-bed bungalow, 2x 2-bed bungalows and 2x 2-bed semi-detached houses. No garages will now be built. Developers say they have responded to concerns previously raised and feel the balance is tipped firmly in favour of granting planning permission. Islanders have until 26th July to comment on the plans using application reference 21/02423/OUT.

Quigley’s Labour pre election literature promises that every islander has the opportunity to have their own front door.
Better get used to plenty more greenfield sites being concreted over then….
You would think that as he is a “proud islander” he lives close enough to the sea to realise that turning the tide is an impossible task. Still, makes a good paragraph in the book of dreams (sorry, manifesto)
Thing is, most people want more than their own front door. They want the house to go with it.
Thatcher sold off most the council owned houses and that was the start of the housing shortages and led to the unaffordable rents today.
What he doesn’t tell you is that anybody who rocks up here from far off lands with their hands open will go straight to the top of any housing list and continue to go straight to the top of those lists as long as the uniparty remain in Westminster
i see the clowns are at it again with pennyfeathers – what part of no, we don’t want gimmegrant, dinghy people benefit hutches built on this island, don’t you get it – jeez
Yeah, because these are the sort of affordable homes that Quigley is taking about, aren’t they?
These are large expensive detached houses for well off people and bungalows for incoming retirees. Most of the people buying these will be Tory voters.
IF we never had a endless, in the true sense of the word number of third worlds illegals filling our country, then their would be more homes and the money to pay for more homes for OUR people, not those who just ‘decide’ a few months of suffering for a life time of being paid to breed is ‘worth the risk’.
Vote Reform, or stop moaning when your family can’t gain a house, a doctor, a dentist, or is queuing at a food bank.
See WHY the UK is growing poorer, why people need to go to food banks, why rents and house prices are too high, MORE people all wanting more money more health care, more expensive education , it is not coincidence it happened at the same time a mass immigration in the UK.
Ensure you vote Reform
So people are now poorer due to immigration? Nothing to do with 14 years of Tory mismanagement and the highest tax burden in Europe then? Don’t be fooled by the Deform scare mongering. A vote for Deform is a vote for more of the same or worse.
Ew, there are semi detached houses on that. Could you imagine being so poor that you need to share a wall.
Thin edge of the wedge.
Don’t trust planning .
More will be added once they start building.
Have they seen the traffic on Staplers.
What a dreadful thing to do on greenfield land.
Where will it be next now this president has been set ?
No president has been set. No president has yet been elected.
How many people realised that “president” should have been “precedent” in the context of the post?
Islanders have the worst literacy skills in the UK.
Don’t forget that the fancy words ”Affordable homes and new homes” are fancy words for ”Free homes for chavs and immigrans”.
Let’s just as a matter of interest, see how many of them are for working famillies and war vets
Why should war vets be given free housing? What about NHS vets? Teaching vets? Fire service vets? In fact, why not anybody who has done their but for country overall and community in particular?
If there’s money for one it should be spent on all. I’ll gladly pay my taxes in lieu of not being in a position to step up in other areas.
How about you? Speak less, care more.
If people like you depend on people like you, then you’re in big trouble when the crunch comes for you.
Tread carefully little grasshopper.
War vets should have free housing as a reward for risking their necks fighting to defend the country that the tories have turned into a shit hole, and they should have priority over a load of waste of space low life snort/swill/smack heads who have never done a stroke or ever paid a penny into the economy, including immigrants, who we owe nothing. I never said anything about anyone else not getting the same. Unless they are a tory voter!
I wonder of they will have to widen Landscape Lane. For all the heavy works vehicles.
Ref planning application,if you want a rabbit ask for a horse
