Several homes and businesses were without power in Newport during the early hours of this morning (Friday).
Residents around the island told Island Echo that their lights had been flickering in the areas of Newport, Carisbrooke, Ryde, Freshwater, Rookley and Shanklin with some people in Newport saying they had experienced at least two cuts in power lasting a few seconds at around 01:00.
Scottish and Southern Energy put a tweet out through their Twitter feed at 01:26 apologising about a power cut affecting Dodnor & the surrounding areas of Newport. They also said that their engineers were enroute to investigate the issue.
The sound of security alarms could be heard in the affected areas as the result of the loss in power.
All power supplies were restored by 02:40 this morning.
