Just hours after a woman and her dog were rescued from a sticky situation, search and rescue teams have been called back to the same location at Whitecliff Bay in Bembridge, where a another woman and her dog have now become stuck in the mud. HM Coastguard and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been called back to the treacherous section of East Wight coastline to rescue a dog walker – less than 5 hours after an identical rescue in exactly the same place. As previously reported by Island Echo, an emergency situation was declared shortly after 10:00 when a woman found herself up to her waist in mud after becoming cut off by the tide and heading towards the base of the cliff. Now, Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams and fire crews from Ryde and Newport are back on scene, alongside Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather and inshore lifeboats, attempting to rescue the latest casualty.
They were alerted just before 14:45. This rescue has been made easier due to the tide being much lower, allowing direct beach access. UPDATE @ 16:15 – The woman – and her dog – have been successfully freed from their sticky predicament. The woman has been transferred on a stretcher to the inshore lifeboat, which has in turn transferred her onto the All Weather Lifeboat.
Bembridge Lifeboat is now making its way back to the boathouse, where the woman is expected to be checked over by paramedics. A second casualty was able to free themselves and has been given the all clear by medics. This afternoon’s unfortunate situation makes for 5th mud rescue so far this year – 2 at Whitecliff, 2 at Thorness and 1 at St Helens.
